Introduction: The way an author chooses to write something can really affect the way that place or thing is potrayed by the reader. In the expert from In Cold Blood by Truman Capote his view of the village of Halcomb is clearly shown. Capote uses diction, tone, imagery, and selection of detail to show the view he has of the village. The author's use of diction, tone, imagery, and selection of detail to show the view he has of the village. The authors use of diction and tone shows that he is in a way mocking the village as if it weren't much. His use of imagery and selection of detail support this idea but he also shows how the people there are content with life in the village.
Body Paragraphs: Capotes view is clearly shown in his use of diction. His diction gives the reader the view that the village is not much.He writes "the streets, unnamed, unshaded, unpaved," it gives off that the village is not modern and not a place where he lives to be. He uses words like "falling-apart", "peeling", "dry". This shows that his view of the city is that it is old fashioned, clearly falling apart, in the middle of nowhere, clearly not this place where this author would like to be and spend his time. This is shown in the way and words that he writes. His diction also gives off the idea that the village is nothing special he mocks it saying it is "lonesome", "ordinary", "closed".His word choice shows he looks down a the village but in a serious way.
Capote uses imagery and selection of detail to show his view of the village as well. His choice of imagery and details make the village sound very old style, it seems too old style for his liking. He says it is "far western than middle west" with men wearing trousers and pointed high-heeled boots. Capote's wording makes it seem like this village is not his style or the way he would like to live. When he describes the cityhe wtites that is had the "dirtes mud" and "flaking dirt window". His use of detail and imagery clearly show that he sees the village as old and most of it falling apart with many of its buildings long closed.Capotes diction shows his personal disliking of the village ant the way that it looks.
Capote's tone is clearly mock-serious. Throughout the paragraphs he seems very serious about his descriptions but he mocks the village in his sentences. His tone is what really shows his disliking of the village. He writes that it "camouflages." It seems as if he wants something more than what the village has to offer. In his last paragraph he seems content with the village mainly because the people were "satisfied that this should be so, quite content to exict inside ordinary, life". His tone in that last sentence shows the village is not really to his liking but that it is towars the inhabitants of the village.
Conclusion: Capotes style in In Cold Blood shows he is mocking the village but that even though he might not like how ordinary it is, he mocks the people who are content with living in that ordinary life.
